The idea is not new, people have been hanging sheet music on walls for some time. Paper is fragile, it yellows and cracks. Wood feels permanent and soft to the touch. There is something comforting about a well crafted piece of wooden wall art. When you add notes and words to the wood it creates a distinct change that is immediately positive. It is as if the wood comes alive. I did not appreciate the change until we brought our song boards to our local Farmers Market.
One of our most memorable times was when a woman came to our booth, saw our Song Board “In the Garden”, took a deep breath, grabbed the board and hugged it. There was no way we were getting that board back. It was hers. The look in her eyes spoke of a story that we would never know but was filled with deep emotion. She paid for the board with eagerness. She didn’t even ask for a bag. I have always wondered what story was behind those eyes. It was a moment we marked because it reminded us that we do is more than just cut wood and make trinkets. We help create memory, to bring life into simple things… we create treasures.
About a year ago we started making our Song Boards. Explained simply, they are our large maple cutting boards that have sheet music carved into them. Our first song board was from the classic hymn “Amazing Grace”. It is one of those songs that always speaks deeply to me. The first one I ever made still hangs in my shop as one of my many pieces of wall art.
What is available
We currently have five classic hymns and several patriotic songs. More will be added as time goes along. What we have found is as people flip through the songs they will often be hit by one. Their hands will pause; they will get a faraway look in their eyes and often smile. As they pass the Star Spangled Banner their lips often move to sing the words silently. It is much more than a piece of wooden wall art.
I love the Billy Joel quote, “I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive expression of humanity. It’s something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we’re from, everyone loves music.” Music is an expression of the depths inside of us. What is your song? What song speaks to you deeply? Reminds you of a cherished loved one? Music is Relational
My son is a people person, he can make friends instantly. I am the opposite, I have learned to be social but my friend circle is small. Music is one of those topics that we can all relate to. You have been there, the perfect song on the radio and everyone starts singing along. Some songs make us close our eyes and sing while some make us smile big and move. Buying gifts for friends can be challenging. I am certain our song boards will be a unique gift and probably be the perfect gift for the music lover in your circle. How it all started
We started our song board wooden wall art collection with Amazing Grace and as people put in requests we have added to our collection. When a new song is requested and we want to carry it as a regular stocked item we will not charge any additional fees. We simply make the new song and add it to the collection. Songs have ranged from Hymns to the National Anthem to wedding songs to nursery songs.
How do you create beautiful wooden wall art with meaning? Simply. Make it sing. Whether it be the lyrics from Amazing Grace or the lyrics to your favorite love song such as “I Will Always Love You” originally done by Dolly Parton but probably more famously know from the Whitney Houston remake in her film.

If you have a song you would like us to make into wooden wall art for you let us know. Our Song Boards are made with local maple wood, the sheet music is carved into the board and the words painted. The board is then coated with lacquer for a protective finish. Each board has a keyhole slot in the back to hang off of your wall.
