In my exploration of the kitchen I have come across some “tricks” that help things go more smoothly. So, in this new exploration of blogging I thought it would be fun to share some of my Kitchen tips. I am hoping to put one on here every other week. Hope you enjoy.
This is my most recent kitchen tip find. Tried it for the first time today. 🙂 Works great!
Did you know the top of a salt shaker is the same diameter as a wide mouth canning jar? It is fabulous! I love it when I can reuse what I would recycle or throw out and make something more useful.
First, I cut out the top of the salt container. I used a box cutter to roughly cut it out on the outside and then trimmed in with scissors to the top edge.
Then I put it on as the lid of a canning jar (you can use any size jar that has a wide mouth opening). Since it was a bit boring I decided to trace it onto a piece of scrapbook paper and slide the cut out paper over the spout lid before putting on the canning jar.
I filled mine with sugar but it has endless possibilities not only in the kitchen but also in the craft room!
I think I will make another one for hot chocolate powder when I have another empty salt container. My family goes through quite a lot of it during the winter months that seem to be quickly approaching.
What would you use this for?  Would love to read your comments!  🙂

I literally threw one away three weeks ago and paused right before I did and said to myself… there has to be an easy way to reuse this. You are a genius my dear friend! 🙂

October 3, 2013 4:25 amWell genius is quite a big stretch… Shared this one first because I finished off a container of salt too and thought the same thing. Remembered seeing this somewhere so had to try it.

October 3, 2013 12:33 amI love the idea to use it for hot cocoa mix! I would probably use it for the coconut I put in my smoothies…much easier than pouring it from a big jar.
