Who are The Frabjus Lady and The Screwy Carpenter?
Well, we shortened the name to Lady and the Carpenter… but Frabjus Lady and Screwy Carpenter was our beginning.
I would say just two normal people but what’s normal?
My three kiddos and I live in the Pacific Northwest on the Olympic Peninsula. It is truly a little slice of heaven. We live in a home with several acres and enjoy all the fun and work that comes with this country adventure.
I grew up mostly in small towns and moved a lot growing up. We have now made a home here in the Pacific Northwest and I plan on staying for a long time. I can’t call myself a country girl or really a city girl so I describe myself as a “citified country girl”. Though I am familiar with country life, it’s not enough that I know how to kill and prep a chicken or milk a cow properly. I am learning to grow my own food and love being in the country. I LOVE being a Mom and watching my children grow. Granted, they drive me bonkers some days but I think that is pretty “normal” for all moms to feel that way. I enjoy writing, canning and cooking. Though I am a “random crafter” I particularly enjoy creating my bullet journal. My supply of markers and washi tape is probably a bit out of control.
My Carpenter
The Screwy Carpenter is my hubby Kevin. In 2015 we started the business Lady and the Carpenter and started making Kevin’s Quality Clothespins. Kevin grew up in a small town and was definitely a country boy. He grew up gardening, milking cows and doing all sorts of country chores that I am sure at the time he hated but came to see the good in. He deeply loved the smell of freshly cut wood and the outdoors. After a day in his shop he would come into the house with sawdust in his hair and a smile on his face. His grandfather was also a woodworker and that love was passed onto him. Woodworking was part of his soul. In December of 2020 Kevin went to be with his Jesus.
Kevin and I always made clothespins together but he did all the woodworking steps. In February of 2021 I decided to continue the business. With the help and support of 4 local men skilled in woodworking, manufacturing and problem solving I learned the woodworking side of the business. It was a hard road to travel and a steep learning curve but in June of 2021 I made my first clothespins! It was an amazing victory. Definitely a bitter sweet moment. I am now the Lady and the Carpenter… and surprisingly I am enjoying making them.
The rest of the Fam
I have 3 lovely children. Faith is a little spit fire. As she goes through these formative years it’s fun to see her little personality starting to develop. Abby is my thinker. You know the Family Circus cartoon where the boy takes this tangled trail to get to his destination?… that’s my girl. She is brilliant in her studies, has an amazingly creative mind but is a bit of an absent minded professor. Aidan is my oldest. He is bright and compassionate. He is forever asking for the schedule of the day and I am forever saying “Your doing what we are doing…just go with the flow…not everything has to be scheduled.” They all make each day entertaining, I love experiencing life with them. I hope you enjoy reading about our adventures.
The Kiddos
Last but definitely NOT least, I pray that God would show you more of His love and that you would see His Spirit shine through our posts. –

Why Frabjus Lady?
Yes I know it is an unusual name but it fits me perfectly. In college my roommate and I loved the Lewis Carroll poem the Jabberwocky. In the poem “frabjous” is a word meaning something close to joyous. I loved the word but put my own twist on it and changed the spelling slightly. Frabjus means joyous but with the beautiful love of God mixed in. I know if I had just slayed the Jabberwocky I would have lots of joy mixed in with a thankfulness to God for Him saving me from such a terrible creature. God has repeatedly saved me and I am forever grateful.

March 26, 2020 5:26 pmHi! I am interested in buying clothespins. I saw your info and videos but I can’t find a link to actually buy them or the price. Probably that my iPad is really old and isn’t showing something that requires something I don’t have on my iPad. I do have PayPal, which I saw mentioned in your reply to the comments. I found your page by searching for video about that frustrating clothesline tightener.
My mistake was I was trying to push it through the wrong direction. But the wire idea helped. My clothesline is super heavy. Once I realized I was pushing it through the “locked” direction I tapered the end of the clothesline with a knife and stiffened it with duct tape. Then I could push it through pretty easily without hassle. Even after watching your video I was still trying to put it through the opposite direction. I finally put everything away before someone got hurt! Then I re read the directions. “Pull the cap and thread the rope through the opposite end.” My clothes line goes from my deck to an oak tree almost 100 feet away! 200 feet of clothesline is pretty heavy, so threading through the tensioner required another step. I made the line 20 feet too long. Lashed the end to my deck railing, leaving 6 feet to thread through the tensioner. I had already tied the hook to the other end of the line (pulley set up)
Then it was not to hard to thread one handed while holding the tensioner in the other hand. Chin was helpful.
By the way, also interested in wooden clothespins old style without the spring. Just one piece.

March 19, 2016 7:43 pmI have moved that many times in my lifetime. Hoping to stay here for a while. It is hard to settle in after a move. I have found that putting pictures on the wall is a big step in settling into a new home. It’s like my psyche says it’s okay to relax when they are up.
